Implementing the Redesigned Course
Which Aspects of Your Course Have You Redesigned?
- I’ve given students the option to attend office hours remotely, via zoom, if they can’t – or don’t want to – come to my office.
- I used to have students hand in paper drafts, but now I’ve moved to google docs, which is not only more environmentally friendly, but also allows me to see how much revision is happening.
- I used to have students conduct peer review in class, but now, I’ve moved it to VoiceThread. This helps keep student reviewers accountable for the comments they provide to their peers as well as makes student writers responsible for asking for the feedback they would like to receive, and let’s them “keep” that feedback, as they can go back and listen to the VoiceThread feedback as often as they’d like.
Adopted Technology?
- Zoom, for office hours to increase the percentage of students who attend office hours.
- Google Docs – to help students stay on top of the drafting process, and which is not only more environmentally friendly, but also allows me to see how much revision is happening.

- Remind – To help keep students stay on top of deadlines.
Which Professional Development Activities Have you Participated in During Your Course Redesign?
- Professional Learning Community (PLC) webinars, English Council Technology demo
- While I’d used VoiceThread previously, I hadn’t used any of the other technologies. Through being part of the CRT community, I learned a great deal from my colleagues, as their hands on training help was invaluable. Additionally, through attending the mid-year meeting in Long Beach, I was able to get a much better understanding of the 2025 graduation initiative, so that I can explain to my colleagues why they should welcome it.
Which Additional Resources Were Needed for the Redesign?
- As my cohort’s faculty leads are on campus, I was able to consult with them frequently. I also used our instructional designer, our campus Teaching and Learning Innovations Center, and worked with one of CI’s librarians to help develop on line tutorials for research. .
